What is breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation (augmentation mammoplasty) is a cosmetic operation that increases breast size and improves shape and symmetry using silicone implants. When the breasts have also dropped, it is often combined with a breast lift (mastopexy) so that the implant sits behind a lifted, reshaped breast.

At AYT Clinic the operation is performed by a specialist plastic surgeon in a contracted private hospital in Antalya. Implant size, shape and position are chosen together with you at the face-to-face consultation before surgery.

Who is a good candidate?

  • You are in good general health and a non-smoker, or able to stop smoking before and after surgery

What is recovery like after breast augmentation?

Most patients feel tightness and soreness for the first few days, which is controlled with pain relief. Recovery is gradual – this is a typical timeline:

Safety

What are the risks of breast augmentation?

All surgery carries risks. Your surgeon explains them at your consultation and you sign an informed consent form before the operation. The main risks of breast implant surgery include:

Bleeding or haematoma

A collection of blood that may need to be drained.

Infection

Reduced with sterile technique and antibiotics; rarely the implant must be removed.

Capsular contracture

Scar tissue around the implant tightens, making the breast firm or misshapen; may need further surgery.

Changes in sensation

Nipple or breast sensation can increase or decrease, usually temporarily.

Asymmetry or implant position

Implants can sit differently or move; revision may be needed.

Rupture and replacement

Implants are not lifetime devices and may need to be replaced in future.

If there is significant sagging, implants alone may not give the shape you want and your surgeon may recommend a lift with implants. Sending photos before you travel helps us advise you.

Is breast augmentation painful?

Most patients describe tightness and soreness rather than sharp pain for the first few days. It is controlled with prescribed pain relief and usually improves noticeably within a week.

Will I have scars?

Incisions are placed as discreetly as possible – usually in the crease under the breast or around the areola – and normally fade over 12–18 months with good aftercare. A breast lift involves longer scars around the areola and often down the breast.

When can I fly home and go back to work?

Most patients fly home around day 6 after their final check. Many return to desk work after 1–2 weeks; exercise and heavy lifting are reintroduced gradually from around 6 weeks.

Do breast implants need to be replaced?

Breast implants are not lifetime devices. Many last for many years, but they may need replacing if there is a problem such as rupture or capsular contracture, or if you wish to change size.

Can I breastfeed after breast augmentation?

Many women can breastfeed after augmentation, but it cannot be guaranteed, especially after incisions around the areola or a reduction. Tell your surgeon if you plan to breastfeed in future.

Is complication insurance included?
